Compliance Summary

GENERAL POSITIONING

The Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen is a 26 floor, 4-star business hotel located 2kms south of the city centre. Copenhagen is known as a city of culture, entertainment and historical attractions however, for delegates attending meetings at the hotel, these distractions are avoided due to the venue’s residential location.

The hotel is a 15-minute car transfer from Copenhagen International Airport, and for drivers, an externally managed, 388 space car-park is immediately outside the hotel.

The hotel offers a total of 18 meetings and events spaces laid out in a U-shape on the 3rd floor, with 5 connecting rooms on each side and three further rooms that link the two spaces. Meeting room capacities range from 30 to 1200 in theatre style, capable of hosting all healthcare meeting types with two distinct areas which allow for more than one healthcare companies’ meetings to be hosted at the same time.

Within the building and with an entrance located in the lobby, there is a casino, but this is not owned or managed by the hotel. The casino is not visible from the meeting floor however, for meetings involving healthcare professionals, the entrance can be blocked from general view as an external entrance is available. Other than the internal entrance, there is little evidence of the existence of the casino once on the property so this action will limit the attention from meeting delegates.

The hotel offers residential guests use of the Sports Health Club on the 4th floor. This is externally managed and has a local membership. There are free weights and machines but no pool, jacuzzi or sauna and treatments are only available on request in advance as the Health Club does not include a reception desk.

SALES AND MARKETING

The hotel uses a Radisson Blu templated website to present a balanced proposition of a venue capable of holding meetings and events, and as a location for leisure guests looking to use the venue as a base from which to visit the city.

Three rolling images include an external shot that reflects the high-rise nature of the building and two bedrooms. This imagery and those on secondary pages are unlikely in our opinion to create an impression of a luxury hotel.

With the hotel’s location outside the city centre, description of facilities focusses on the impressive city views offered from higher floors which could be considered as an attraction to visit the hotel. There are modest uses of elevated language to describe the facilities that are aimed to attract both business and leisure guests.

Within the building are several other businesses that are referenced within the hotel website. These are not owned or managed by the hotel. These include a Japanese and Thai restaurant which are not positioned as fine dining experiences, a small tailor / non designer clothing store and the casino. These businesses present an enhancement to the hotels facilities but should not detract bookers from considering the hotel as one for business.

The hotels sales and marketing brochure provides a mix of images of public spaces and city views available from higher floors and some of the city centre tourist areas. This is balanced by information pages aimed at meeting bookers and provide meeting room capacities and a floor plan.

Google accurately reflects the hotels 4-star rating and displays external travel site links which include descriptions and references of the hotel’s proximity to the city centre and the views from the higher floors.

The hotel uses social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to host posts that are of leisure-based activities held at the hotel. These should not detract bookers from the hotel as a place positioned for business.

LOCATION AND SETTING

The hotel is a high-rise building that dominates the southern city skyline and provides panoramic city views from higher floors but is surrounded by business and residential buildings.

The hotel is 2kms south of the city centre, so the distractions of the city are avoided. Copenhagen’s International Airport is a 15-minute car transfer away and for those driving, an externally managed, 388 space car-park is immediately outside the hotel.

FIT FOR PURPOSE

With 18 meeting rooms on a dedicated meeting floor and capacities ranging from 30 to 1200 in theatre style, The Radisson Blu Scandinavia positions itself as a flexible venue for meetings and events which represents a critical part of the venue’s revenue.

The layout of the meeting space allows for multiple groups to meet in self-contained meeting areas in a location that avoids the distractions of the city.

Copenhagen is home to the global headquarters of healthcare companies and as such, the hotel is part of a number of corporate preferred venue programmes that include the booking of internal and external meetings and those associated with congresses held at the Bella Centre.

With 544 rooms in the hotel, delegate numbers of 500 is considered optimum as the Scandinavian Ballroom on one side of the first floor, can accommodate. 500 in cabaret style and the 5 breakout rooms on the opposite side can either support catering functions or use as breakout rooms.

Due to the casino, security staffing is more visible, and they provide additional resource to support secure meetings when required. The casino is not visible from the meeting area of the hotel.

FACILITIES

On the ground floor, off the central lobby, the hotel’s Busstop Bar provides a modest sized location for residential guests.

The Filini Restaurant is located on the lobby level and can accommodate up to 275 people in one group. It is the location for guest breakfast, lunch and dinners and areas can be privatised for group lunches however, being open plan, it cannot be made 100% private. The restaurant provides Italian cuisine within a contemporary Scandinavian setting.

Top of the Town is a private dining area for groups of 100 on the 25th floor. The views across the city are impressive but the restaurants use is restricted as the higher category bedrooms are on the same level and the 26th floor above. This restricts the usage to a place for catering functions but not late-night entertainment. This space is aimed at hosting special events so its use may be considered for use for internal events only.

Within the hotel sits externally owned and managed businesses that include a clothes store and tailor, a Japanese and Thai restaurant and the casino. All offer internal access to guests, but none are included in any proposals for events that include healthcare professionals. The Casino entrance is to the side of the stairway leading from the lobby to the meeting floor. For HCP meetings, this doorway can be covered, and its presence hidden.

The hotel also provides a Business Lounge on the ground floor which is predominantly used by air crews for a privatised check-in.

Meetings: The hotel meeting space is located on two floors, lobby level and third floor which is access by two flights of stairs that lead from the lobby. The two ground floor meeting rooms are ideal for overflow or breakouts as the majority of space is on the 3rd floor.

Meeting rooms are laid out in a U shape with 5 connecting rooms on each side and three further rooms that link the two spaces.

All rooms come with natural daylight and inbuilt AV, projectors and screens with 4m ceiling height on one side and 3m on the other – 500 is the ideal meeting size with catering options on the opposite side as Filini can only accommodate 250

3rd floor can be privatised

The foyer areas provide permanent coffee stations on one side and booth style chairs on the other allowing for small workshops and 1:1 meetings.

Bedrooms: A total of 544 bedrooms all have views, either across the city or towards the sea and come in four categories: 288 Standard rooms occupy the 5th to 14th floor and with business facilities such as a work desk, laptop safe, iron/ironing board, tea/coffee making facilities and Radisson own brand toiletries.

Superior rooms occupy the 15th to 17th floors, are the same size as the standard rooms but due to their higher floors do come with a small supplement. In our opinion, these could be considered appropriate for the allocation to HCPs where more than the 288 standard rooms are required.

Premium rooms and Suites are located on the 18th to 25th floors but would only be proposed for HCP meetings if the number of rooms available in Standard and Superior is not enough to support large-scale meetings.

Styling in all rooms is simplistic contemporary with beige carpets and walls with black furniture and curtains contrasted by white linen bedding.

Leisure: The hotel offers residential guests use of the Sports Health Club on the 4th floor. This is externally managed and has a local membership. There are free weights and machines but no pool, jacuzzi or sauna and treatments are only available on request in advance as the Health Club is not staffed.

SERVICE

The hotel does provide a dedicated concierge service but there is no doorman or any other evidence to suggest that service levels are not consistent with a venue suitable for healthcare meetings and events.

There is complimentary Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel but for a faster and more secure service to support meeting connections, a dedicated line is recommended.
