General Overview:
The Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam is rated as a 4* hotel and positioned for the business and leisure markets with facilities to support international, national and regional healthcare meetings.
Location:
The hotel is centrally located and a 5-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station over ground station which provides public transport links to other major cities in the Netherlands and to Amsterdam Schiphol international airport in 30 minutes by train.
The city’s key convention centre, the Amsterdam RAI- is a 20-minute drive away or can be reached by direct metro in 12 minutes.
For those driving, although the hotel does not have its own parking, local valet parking and parking can be arranged through the hotel. Coaches can park outside the hotel with prior arrangement for pick up and drop off.
Design:
The hotel occupies a historic 19th century building, combined with traditional houses at the rear which are not visible, with part of the hotel housed in a modern purpose-built annexe. The interior of the building is decorated in a contemporary style without any heritage features. Up lit led walls and a muted grey, yellow and beige colour palette are in keeping with the Park Plaza brand with some ‘boutique’ style touches, but certainly not aimed for the luxury market.
Meeting Spaces:
Conference facilities are on two dedicated meeting floors, the mezzanine and lower ground floors with pre-function areas which could ensure client confidentiality if all booked together. Easy access is provided between the two floors by staircase or lift when shared with hotel guests.
Meeting room sizes vary due to the period nature of the building but are modern in styling with capacities of up to 110 for a theatre style meeting, or a minimum boardroom for 12. Carsten’s restaurant on the ground floor is offered for delegate lunches in an a la carte sharing style but can be adapted to provide private dining areas.
Bedrooms:
The hotel offers 298 guest rooms across the Victoria or Urban Wings and split into three room types: Superior (228), Executive (66), and Suites (4).
Decor differs across the hotel’s two wings: Victoria Wing rooms are decorated with part dark grey/yellow patterned carpet and dark wood effect floor, with white bed linen and duvet and off-white with grey feature walls. Urban Wing rooms have touches of grey, red and black in the decor.
Superior rooms are Park Plaza’s “standard” rooms and come with internal views or iconic city views, in either the Victoria or Urban Wing.
Guests receive a flat-screen smart TV, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and Nespresso tea/coffee machine with a work desk, laptop safe and iron/ironing board. We would suggest HCPs are allocated rooms with internal views as city views are used as an upgraded category and would not be included in proposals for HCPs meetings. If required Nespresso coffee machines can also be removed.
The upgraded Executive Rooms come with views and would not be included in proposals for HCP meetings, although the upgraded amenities can be removed if required.
The hotel offers four one-bedroom suites which are perceived as a luxury product and would not be suitable to include for healthcare sector meetings.
Restaurant:
Located off the hotel lobby is the Carstens Restaurant, offers 80 seats an all-day brasserie with Dutch influences featuring locally sourced ingredients from farmers and the North Sea.
The interior provides a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere with grey and back-lit yellow panelled walls; banquette seating combined with light wood chairs and tables as well as comfy low armchairs. Soft furnishings are yellow, black and orange, with foliage and food-related accessories throughout. The restaurant can offer menu packages that comply with Netherlands HCP meal caps.
Bar:
Vics Bar is located in a separate area just off the hotel lobby and is open all day for snacks, coffee and local beers.
The bar hosts two live jazz performances a month and a DJ set with atmospheric background music every Friday and Saturday evening however, any programme involving HCPs would not have the bar activities included in any proposals.
Fitness:
The hotel offers a beauty salon, pool and fitness area which is accessed by a lift to the lower ground floor and therefore not immediately visible to guests.
Overnight guests of the hotel have complimentary access to the Fitness Area, which includes a gym with exercise machines with free weights. There is a small pool with a sauna and solarium and pre-booked treatments are provided by in the beauty salon to but are chargeable. Access is via the lift from the Urban Wing.
Experience:
The hotel has a loyal client base across the healthcare sector and is used regularly by corporates and specialist agencies for sales training and team meetings, product launches and meeting organised by patient groups, including those from the Amsterdam Medical Centre (AMC) and VU University Medical Centre.
The Park Plaza brand can be reliably considered a brand for business, without the risks associated with some high end or luxury hotel groups.
The Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam draws on its location and meetings facilities to attract the business traveller and meetings market and those wishing to use the hotel as a base for a leisure stay.
The location in the ‘heart’ of the city could be viewed as a distraction for delegates however, in our opinion, guests arriving from the airport or Centraal station will not pass by tourist attractions as they are located beyond the hotel.
The Carstens Restaurant, created by concept chef Maik Kuijpers who is renowned as having a Michelin star restaurant, but this restaurant should not be considered as a fine dining experience.
