General Overview
The APEX Grassmarket Hotel Edinburgh is a contemporary 4-star with a mix of facilities and services for business and leisure markets.
With 8 rooms capable of hosting up to 200 in theatre style, the hotel is well suited for meetings from the healthcare sector. Due to its location and views up to the Castle, naturally, marketing for leisure groups is also a focus.

Location
The hotel sits in the city centre. Edinburgh has two main railway stations Haymarket and Waverley which can be easily access by the city’s tram system which also connects to Edinburgh International Airport.
Both railway stations and tram stops are a short walk – 15 min from Waverley and 22 minutes from Haymarket.
For delegates driving, the hotel offers 60 spaces on a first come first served basis.
For group travel, coaches can pick up and drop off outside but not park.
Design
The hotel presents an exterior that is modern and contemporary with clean lines, and a mostly concrete and glass appearance, designed to complement the surrounding historic buildings of the Grassmarket area.
Inside, the decor features a neutral color palette, with elements of color through artwork and modern furniture.
Meeting Space
All 8 of the hotel’s meeting spaces are on one floor or accessed by stairs or lift from the main hotel and can be privatized on request.
The largest is the Apex Suite which is capable of holding theatre style meetings for up to 200. Day meetings as well as residential meetings with syndicate space fit the facilities well here.
Bedrooms
The hotel’s 169 bedrooms are split across the 1st to 5th floors and include business amenities e.g. work desk, laptop safe / tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary wi-fi.
Rooms at the front of the building naturally have views across to Edinburgh Castle and these are considered and sold as upgrades.
Restaurant
The hotel’s 90 seat main restaurant is the Metro serving Modern British
Privatisation cannot be guaranteed and would be on a request basis. For private functions and dinner meetings, a meeting room would be required.
Likely to be appropriate for internal groups only, Heights is a private dining room on the 5th floor with views of Edinburgh Castle.
The Metro Bar on the ground floor but cannot be privatized.
Experience
The hotel has experience in hosting meetings from local NHS departments and internal global pharmaceutical groups.
Fitness
The hotel offers guests a fitness gym with free weights and exercise machines. There is an indoor swimming pool with sauna and steam room but there is no spa.
All facilities are located on the lower ground floor and is accessed on ground level as you enter the hotel.
The hotel is located in the popular Grassmarket area where there are pubs and restaurants close by.
Edinburgh Castle sits on one of Edinburgh’s hills and is visible from most places in Edinburgh including the hotel as it is a few hundred meters away.
With castle view bedrooms sold as upgrades, consideration may be needed before allocating to HCPs.
The hotel is officially rated as 4-star and with external travel sites positioning the hotel to the higher end focusses on its central Edinburgh location. Some mention a spa but this is incorrect as treatments are not available
