Movenpick Hotel Basel is a business-focused hotel located in central Basel, Switzerland, offering extensive facilities for meetings, events, and corporate stays. With a primary focus on the corporate and conference markets, the hotel provides a comprehensive venue for business events with 16 meeting rooms and a ballroom accommodating up to 440 guests in theatre style.
Location:
Movenpick Hotel Basel is centrally positioned in Basel, Switzerland, within the Baloise Park complex and adjacent to Basel SBB railway station. The surrounding area is a commercial and transport hub, providing easy access to public transport and proximity to De-Wette park. The venue is a 3-minute (200m) walk from Basel SBB and approximately 20 minutes by public transport from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Parking includes 45 on-site spaces (CHF 35/day), with additional public garages nearby. Coaches can drop off passengers directly in front of the hotel, with further coach parking available in the city.
Design
The hotel’s external architecture presents a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic, combining concrete and glass in harmony with the urban surroundings. Internally, the venue adheres to a "timeless modernity" design theme, incorporating natural materials and a warm, subdued colour palette. The hotel’s layout supports discreet access to meeting areas and ensures privacy in public zones, suitable for professional events.
Meeting Spaces
Movenpick Hotel Basel offers 16 meeting rooms distributed across three floors, totalling nearly 2,000 sqm. The ballroom, the largest space at 505 sqm and located on level -2, supports 440 delegates in theatre style and can be subdivided into three sections. A separate 351 sqm conference room and adjacent 66 sqm meeting room are on the second floor, with access to 10 additional breakout rooms (25–38 sqm) via a spiral staircase. All rooms benefit from natural daylight and are equipped with modern AV technology. Meeting floors can be made exclusive for event use.
Bedrooms
The hotel offers 260 rooms across floors 4 to 16, including Standard (Classic), Executive (Deluxe), and Suite options. Standard rooms (floors 4–10) overlook nearby buildings, while Executive rooms and Suites (from floor 4 upwards) offer city views. All rooms are equipped with business traveller amenities including a large desk, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, laptop-sized safe, Nespresso machine, mini-fridge (with bottled water), iron and board, bathrobe, and slippers. These items can be removed upon request.
Restaurant and Public Spaces
PURO, located on the first floor, is the main restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with 175 seats and a fusion menu combining Asian, Latin American, and local dishes. It includes two private rooms and full restaurant privatisation is available for events. For private dining with presentations, meeting rooms are recommended. MP’s Bistro & Bar (285 seats including terrace) and the Executive Lounge on the 4th floor (up to 90 guests) serve as additional venues for receptions. PURO has 14 Gault Millau points. The Ballroom can host dinners with private presentations for up to 300 guests.
Experience
The hotel regularly accommodates corporate and healthcare-related events, including medical congresses, training sessions, product launches, advisory boards, and symposiums. It supports events from small expert groups to large conferences. Movenpick Hotel Basel collaborates with local institutions such as Biozentrum and the University of Basel and maintains MSAs through the Accor network.
Fitness
Located on level -1, the wellness area includes a Technogym-equipped fitness centre, sauna, steam bath, and relaxation lounge, accessible to hotel guests. The hotel does not operate as a spa or wellness destination but does offer spa treatments through external providers. No pool or additional leisure facilities are present.
Movenpick Hotel Basel holds an official 4-star Superior rating by Hotelstars Union. The hotel promotes sustainability and has achieved Swisstainable Level III – Leading and Green Globe certifications. While it avoids excessive use of non-compliant terminology, some promotional materials reference awards and guest experience recognition. The venue does not regularly feature entertainment, although it occasionally hosts a DJ event in spring and autumn.
