General Overview
The Intercontinental Berlin Hotel is officially non-rated and is a large conference hotel with 55 meeting rooms but with a mix of facilities and services for both business and leisure markets. The ballroom can accommodate over 1.000 attendees with 558 bedrooms to support large conferences which is a large part of the hotel's focus.
Location
The hotel is located in Berlin's city centre on a main road, and not in the immediate area of any of the city's tourist attractions however, some can be seen from higher bedroom floors.
The hotel offers 126 car parking spaces but are not managed by the hotel. There are coach parking bays 5 minutes away but can pick up or drop off outside the hotel.
Design
The building was built in 1957, however looks modern in terms of style with a plain facade, i.e. doesn’t look traditional, classic, or historic.
Inside the hotel has just been fully refurbished and all bedrooms, reception, lobby bar, and Ballroom have a modern and contemporary decor.
Meeting Space
Nearly all 55 meeting spaces are located on the ground floor with a few on the second floor.
There is no separate/private entrance so to access the meeting spaces you have to use the main entrance
Large conferences are core to the hotel's business and ideal for 400+ attendees up to 1500. However, they do have spaces also for smaller groups with 150 – 200 attendees)
Some areas can be privatised, important for healthcare meetings where privacy is confidentiality is important.
Bedrooms
The hotel has 558 bedrooms across two connected buildings sharing the same entrance,
Bedrooms come with business amenities in standard rooms such as a work desk, laptop safe, tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary wi-fi, ironing facilities, and bathrobe.
Where standard rooms include a mini-fridge, bathrobes, and Nespresso machines, they can be removed if requested.
Restaurant
The hotel's main restaurant is the LA Café on the ground floor, and Marlene Bar is also on the ground floor.
The cuisine served is European, International and the LA Café can seat approx. 220 and Marlene around 100 and both can be privatised although for dinner meetings, a meeting room is required.
Hugos Restaurant is on the 14th floor. Club Lounge on the 8th floor.
Experience
The hotel works with global pharmaceutical companies, mainly those groups with meetings requiring large general sessions and a large amount of breakout rooms.
Fitness
Guests have access to a fitness gym with free weights and exercise machines.
The hotel also has a pool and a spa but these would not be included in any proposal for HCP groups.
Some external travel sites refer to the hotel as 5-star however, the hotel is officially unrated.
The language used on the hotels and exterior travel websites includes words like luxury but there is no doubt that this is a large conference venue and business focussed.
The pool and spa facilities are on the opposite side of the hotel. to the meeting space which means delegates don’t see or walk through the spa area to access the meeting spaces.
