Compliance Summary

General Overview:

The Park Plaza Nottingham is a contemporary purpose-built conference hotel and although unrated is positioned as a four-star hotel that is suited to mainly commercial organisations and has experience of holding internal and external healthcare meetings.

Location:

The hotel is located on Maid Marion Way, a busy ring road in the heart of the city of Nottingham and close to the main shopping area and key business parks.

The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Nottingham Mainline Railway Station which connects the city to London’s Kings Cross station in 1 hour 40 minutes. The station also connects the hotel to East Midlands Airport within 40 minutes and is just 20 minutes from the M1 motorway by car. There are 28 on-site parking spaces available with discounted rates available at other nearby externally managed car parks.

Design:

The building is predominantly concrete in structure and appearance with the ground floor exterior providing a mainly glass front giving a more contemporary feel.

Styling throughout the hotel is modern and contemporary without any touches that would be considered luxurious or deluxe.

Bedrooms:

The Park Plaza Nottingham offers 178 contemporary bedrooms of which 128 are “Superior”, the hotel's standard category and most appropriate for allocation to HCPs.

Superior rooms on higher floors are not considered as upgrades and in our opinion, are suitable for allocation to HPCs. The rooms offer delegates an external view, flat screen TV, air conditioning and tea/coffee facilities with a work desk, laptop safe and iron/ironing board.

There are 44 Executive rooms and although not luxurious or deluxe, have additional space and upgraded amenities including bathrobe and slippers, along with 5 Junior Suites on higher floors, which would represent an upgrade and therefore their allocation to HCPs should be avoided.

All rooms are decorated with stylish simplicity with whites, creams, blacks, and browns as the dominant colours. Mirrors with quotes from famous Nottingham residents and carpets with motivational phrases provide additional decoration and more of a designer concept room.

Meeting Space:

The Park Plaza Nottingham offers a total of 6 contemporary-styled meeting rooms on two floors with the Plaza Suite located off the lobby area on the Upper Ground floor which provides an excellent option for privatised dinner meetings and conferences of up to 100.

Located on the 11th floor, Vista meeting rooms 1 – 5 are situated along one corridor. When combined, rooms 1 - 4, are ideal for internal and external conferences of up to 200. The Vista 5 room is adjacent and has fixed walls and is another option for small dinner meetings and advisory boards.

Restaurant and Bar:

The hotel offers guests two restaurant options with the Chino Latino for breakfast, lunch and dinner and OAKS, an alternative location for lunches and dinner but neither, whilst advertised as “award-winning”, should not be considered as fine dining nor an attraction to organise meetings here.

On the ground floor, The Chino Latino is the hotel’s main restaurant and the location for guest buffet breakfast and for a Pan-Asian a la carte lunch and dinner. The kitchen is open but would not be considered a ‘show’ kitchen that provides demonstrations as an inducement to eat here. It can be privatised for healthcare meetings and access is only via the hotel lobby and does not have a dedicated external public entrance. On the ground floor, the hotel’s main restaurant, Chino Latino has a modest lounge and bar. Red leather chairs and brown oak-style low tables on a hard floor provide a comfortable area that overlooks the Maid Marion main road.

OAKS is also a hotel restaurant specialising in British-sourced meats and other local produce. Only open for a la carte lunches and dinners it could be considered separate from the hotel as it has its own separate entrance.

Experience:

The Queen’s Medical Centre (known as the largest teaching hospital in Europe) and City Hospitals are nearby.

Fitness:

The hotel offers guests a fitness suite however, there is no pool, sauna, or steam room available, and would not be included in any proposals for meetings where HCPs are in attendance.

Compliance Hotspot

The Chino Latino Restaurant is described as having 2AA Rosettes which are given to restaurants for their increased skill, care and consistency of food preparation, and the quality of ingredients.

Also, the restaurant is a double winner at the Nottingham Restaurant Awards however, in our opinion, Chino Latino should not be considered as a fine dining restaurant and distract bookers of healthcare meetings from the core business positioning of the venue.

External popular leisure travel websites, such as Tripadvisor and Ebookers support the hotel’s 4-star rating but naturally focus on the hotel’s leisure aspects and proximity to the more tourist-based attractions of Nottingham rather than its business capabilities.

On the 11th floor, the hotel offers guests (no external membership) a modest fitness suite with free weights and fitness machines. There is no sauna, steam room, or pool.
