The Wyboston Lakes complex/campus is centrally located between Milton Keynes and Cambridge just off the A1 with easy transport access.
The Wyboston Lakes campus offers two distinct separate meeting venues – the Woodlands Event Centre and the Willows Training Centre as well as an entirely separate Waterfront Hotel offering accommodation, golf, spa and restaurant (aimed more towards the leisure guest), and a separate, standalone, multi-functional sports centre/fitness centre.
The Woodlands Event Centre and Willows Training Centre are separate self-contained units within the campus, meaning that for all types of healthcare meetings, delegates can arrive, park, meet and be accommodated and catered for in either, without the distraction of the other onsite leisure-based facilities.
The hotel website and social media sites position Wyboston Lakes as a multi-purpose campus with the Waterfront hotel, The Woodlands Event Centre and The Willows Training Centre positioned as separate entities. The leisure facilities are extensive but are connected to the hotel and not integral to the meetings and events proposition, with the occasional use of images from the front of the hotel with the lakes in view. Links used in registration should be provided with the meeting venues.
Wyboston Lakes site is directly and approximately 60 miles north of London, halfway between Milton Keynes and Cambridge, with a direct and regular train service to St Neots, taking 60 minutes from Kings Cross St Pancras.
Located just off the A1, and close to the A14, J13 of the M1 and J13 of the M11, Wyboston Lakes stands within a business park-style setting surrounded by lakes and a golf course. Although the Y Spa and golf course may be a concern for some, a meeting held at either the Woodlands Event Centre or the Willows Training Centre can be totally self-contained and without the broader leisure facilities affecting the meeting delegate.
Bedford is 12 miles away and Cambridge c.18 miles is where Cambridge Science Park (the home of several well-known healthcare companies) is located.
Wyboston Lakes provides two separate standalone meeting facilities in the Woodlands Event Centre and the Willows Training Centre where delegates can park, meet and be accommodated and catered for without being exposed to the separate leisure-based facilities and activities available on the campus.
Both the Woodlands Event Centre and the Willows Training Centre venues are purpose-built and standalone facilities providing parking, bedrooms, meeting rooms and functions spaces together in an environment that would not be considered luxurious or extravagant but very much functional and business-focused. These are totally separate and located away from the Waterfront Hotel overlooking the lakes and golf course which would only be used if additional accommodation is required.
All meeting rooms in the two centres are offered with natural daylight and air conditioning.
The Willows Training Centre is situated towards the rear of the campus and is considered as the ‘three-star’ option but offers similar meeting facilities to the Woodlands Event Centre and comprises a standalone modern and purpose build building with 2 main conference rooms, 7 training rooms and 10 syndicate rooms which are just a short walk from most training rooms and on the same ground floor. The main plenary room – The Willows Conference Room is located on the first floor and has a dedicated coffee lounge alongside it for refreshment breaks.
The meeting spaces vary in size from 10 to 260 in theatre style and again offer the optimum flexibility. The Willows Conference Room can accommodate 260 in theatre style.
Located near the Willows Training Centre and utilising the same parking area, the self-contained Oakley Suite can accommodate meetings of up to 100 in theatre style with an additional 5 training rooms and a further 12 syndicate rooms. All are located on the ground floor with natural daylight and air conditioning.
There are 406 rooms in total available on the site, 183 located within the Willows Training Centre (the ‘three-star’ property), and 120 rooms in the Woodlands Event Centre, (the ‘four-star’ property). The bedrooms are contemporary in design but there are no luxury touches.
The 103 bedrooms in the Waterfront Hotel, if needed to be used as overflow, provide guests with an Espresso machine and The White Company toiletries but could be removed if considered a compliance issue.
The service levels are consistent with venues suitable for healthcare meetings and events. There is no sign that the venue attempts to use service and a guest to staff ration to leverage luxury impressions.
This venue is located to the West of a city renowned for its historic and leisure attractions however, the venue is located some distance from these areas and has minimal impact on the venue’s business proposition. To attract the weekend leisure market this venue may promote its facilities and nearby activities. These supplement its business services, which can stand alone and are only modestly impacted by facilities and activities aimed toward weekend guests.
Within the Waterfront Hotel, there is the Y Spa however, the hotel and spa are a minimum of 250 meters away from the Woodlands Event Centre and the Willows Training Centre, and delegates would only be exposed to it if Waterfront Hotel bedrooms need to be used as overflow, or there is potentially time within the agenda.
The Fitness Centre is also located in a separate building and at least 200 metres away from either meeting facility.
