General Overview
The Tower Hotel in London is a 4-star business hotel located to the East of London with a large amount of bedrooms and meeting facilities to play host to a range of meeting types from the healthcare sector including those involving HCPs.
Location
The hotel is located on the River Thames in the East of London surrounded by commercial business and residential buildings but is on the edge of London’s tourist centre.
Thames and a 10-minute walk from Tower Hill stations on London’s Underground and DLR networks which connect to London’s City Airport within 30 minutes and Heathrow and Gatwick within 75 and 50 minutes respectively. For delegates driving the hotel has an 80-space car park and is outside the city’s congestion zone.
Design
The Guoman Tower Hotel was built in the 1970s and is a 12-story, concrete, purpose-built building.
Meeting Space
The hotel offers a total of 19 meeting and events spaces with the largest, the Tower Suite on the first floor, capable of accommodating 550 in theatre style. With its own foyer and dedicated meeting entrance it is ideal for self-contained investigator meetings.
Meeting room capacities range from 30 to 550 in theatre style, capable of hosting all healthcare meeting types with two distinct areas which allow for more than one healthcare company’s meetings to be hosted at the same time.
Bedrooms
The hotel has 801 bedrooms with Standard and Executive rooms however when you remove the added amenities from the Executive rooms, these can also be considered in our opinion, appropriate for the allocation to HCPs. The hotel’s 18 Suites are likely to be considered appropriate for internal staff only.
Restaurant
The main Gallery hotel restaurant is on the first floor and is the location for guest buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 180 guests inside and a further 70 outside.
The Neville room, located inside the restaurant, can be utilized for privatised lunches for 50 but for dinner meetings, a private and confidential meeting room is required.
The Vicinity Restaurant is the hotel's second restaurant serving modern street food and is located on the ground floor. This can be used for private functions of up to 250 but due to the table layout, would not be suitable for meetings where presentations are involved.
The Xi Bar is the hotel’s main bar on the upper ground floor and overlooks the River Thames. There is no live music played however, the use of bars would not be proposed for any programme involving HCPs.
Experience
Large medical congresses that take place at ExCel can be easily reached in 30 minutes from the Tower Hill DLR station.
Its location and direct access to Excel make it an excellent choice for congress blocks where a large number of bedrooms and large numbers of HCPs can be allocated in the same category of bedrooms.
Fitness
The hotel offers residential guests the use of a modest 24-hour fitness gym on the 11th floor. Free weights and fitness machines are available but there is no pool, jacuzzi or sauna and treatments are not available. These leisure facilities are not core to the overall proposition.
The immediate area around the hotel attracts tourists as the hotel sits on the River Thames overlooking Tower Bridge which accommodates a busy road that connects the south and north banks. The Tower of London and St’ Katherine’s dock is also just a short walk from the hotel.
The hotel’s homepage carries a static image of the hotel and the Tower of London and uses other similar leisure-based images and language to attract the leisure market throughout its website.
In a Google search, external websites also carry references and reminders of its location and proximity to tourist attractions and it accurately reflects the hotel's 4-star rating and displays search results from external travel sites which include descriptions and references of the hotel’s proximity to tourist sites with some descriptions of the hotel is ‘luxury’.
The Tower Hotel utilizes the hotel’s close proximity and views of the River Thames, Tower Bridge, and the Tower of London in its sales and marketing which predominantly aligns with the leisure market however, this should not deter bookers of healthcare meetings to consider the hotel in isolation as, in our opinion, appropriate for the hosting of healthcare meetings and events that involve HCPs, as it has the number of bedrooms and a number of meeting rooms and sizes to support small, medium and large scale meetings.
